Founded in 2021 by cellist and conductor Victor Julien-Laferrière, Consuelo is one of the most prominent ensembles on the French musical scene. It brings together chamber musicians, soloists, and orchestral players, all united by rigorous standards for the in-depth study of the works they play. Together, they naturally explore the chamber orchestra repertoire while also tackling great symphonic works. Whether performing Mozart, Brahms, Debussy, or Bartók, the orchestra covers a wide range of musical periods and also introduces audiences to lesser-known works that are rarely performed or recorded.
Consuelo is first and foremost a collective that strives for an orchestral ideal: to be a creative community of like-minded artists in constant dialogue. This collaborative approach to interpretation enables the orchestra to achieve the best sound possible.
While the orchestra has a strong local presence in Burgundy region, it also performs internationally (Portugal, Switzerland, Belgium, The Netherlands) and accompanies prestigious soloists such as Anna Fedorova, Renaud Capuçon, David Fray, Pierre Génisson, Steven Isserlis, and Karine Deshayes.
"Whoever feels penetrated by a true love for his art can fear nothing."
George Sand, Consuelo (1843)
